Do you feel completely spent, exhausted, and drained at the end of the day only to realize that you haven’t even made a dent in your to-do list?
We’ve all been there, whether you’re an entrepreneur of a start-up business, an entrepreneur with years of experience and expertise under your belt, or a hardworking professional, too often, wearing a lot of hats takes its toll on us. The reality is we all have a limited amount of time, energy, and resources to get things done. Too much time spent in the office and even bringing work at home can damage not only our relationships, it also has harmful effects on our health. And so, the question is how can we achieve that ever elusive work-life balance?
Contrary to what most people tend to believe, work-life balance is not a myth. It is, in fact, achievable. Here are three simple and doable tips to head start your quest for work-life balance.
1. Manage your time.
It is said that wasted time is more expensive than wasted money. So, analyze how you spend your time and pay attention to the time wasters that consume your precious time. Checking how much time you spend on social media is a good place to start. Social media is designed to suck our time. Social media wants us to be glued to it at all times, that’s how they generate traffic. Don’t get me wrong, social media has its advantages especially in making sure that your business has a well-established online presence, but allowing social media to eat up a chunk of your time unless you’re using it as a vessel to market your business is definitely not one of those. Start looking at your social media activities and analyze how much time you actually spend promoting your business versus how much time you’re mindlessly browsing your news feed.
2. Identify Priorities.
Prioritizing is vital to accomplishing your goals. Know the difference between urgent and important. Keep in mind that without priorities, the urgent will always take over the important and eat up much of your time. Dwight Eisenhower said it best, “What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important.” Your health, family, and relationships are important, so make sure they are always at the top of your priority list.
